Amazon’s October Prime Day event is now underway, and that means major discounts on tech across multiple categories—including, of course, laptops. If you’ve been thinking about a laptop upgrade, now’s the time to grab one at significantly less than the normal rate, and I’ve been scouring the Amazon website to find the most appealing deals so far.
Whether you’re looking for a laptop powered by Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS, there’s something to tempt you here—and I’ve also picked out some of the best gaming laptops for October Prime Day, if you need that extra performance boost for your games (just don’t expect much in the way of battery life).
Windows laptops

If you’re in the market for an everyday Windows laptop to handle basic computing tasks, these models currently offer plenty of power and features for knock-down prices.
Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Pro: The key feature of this particular laptop is the gorgeous 14-inch OLED panel, so you get a super-sharp display with brilliant blacks. The Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM aren’t bad either. It’s also lovely and light, and can now be yours for $1,134.99 rather than $1,449.99, a 22% markdown.
Dell Inspiron 3530: Nobody does reliability and dependability quite like Dell, and the 15.6-inch Inspiron 3530 is a perfect mid-range pick if you want a nice balance between price and performance. Even though you get a high-level Intel Core i7 CPU and a decent 16GB of RAM, this costs a mere $679.77—that’s a fifth off the previous price of $849.97.
HP 255 G10: If you’re on a tight budget, you don’t have to make as many compromises as you think when buying a laptop on October Prime Day. Case in point: the 15.6-inch HP 255 G10 can be yours for $399.99, a $200 reduction on its previous $599.99 price, and you still get a AMD Ryzen 3 7330U processor inside and 16GB of RAM on board.
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i: Lenovo knows what it’s doing when it comes to Windows laptops, as the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i proves. This lightweight, compact, 14-inch laptop brings with it an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM, so it will power through tasks like web browsing and movie streaming, and it’s yours for $549.99 (down $100 from $649.99).

Maybe you’re more into Apple laptops, tempted by the charms of macOS. Apple laptops typically cost more than their Windows counterparts, but there are still deals to be had.
Apple M2 MacBook Air: Starting with the thinnest and lightest of Apple’s laptops, the M2 MacBook Air will give you plenty of power in a very compact unit (it tips the scales at just 1.24 kg or 2.7 pounds). This 13.6-inch model is perfect for sliding into a bag and staying with you everywhere, and you also get 8GB of RAM for $749 (down $250 from $999).
Apple M3 MacBook Pro: If you need more power and have got more to spend—and you don’t mind carrying around a heavier laptop—then this 14.2-inch MacBook Pro comes with Apple’s fastest chipset series to date and 8GB of memory on board. It can all be yours for almost a fifth less than it normally is, so you’ll pay $1,299 rather than $1,599 for it.
Apple M3 MacBook Air: Those of you who want a bigger screen will appreciate the 15.3-inch M3 MacBook Air, which is now $1,234 rather than $1,499 (that’s a drop of $265). As far as specs go, you’re getting 8GB of RAM alongside that cutting-edge M3 processor, and even at this larger size the MacBook Air only weighs 1.51 kg (or 3.3 pounds).
Apple M3 MacBook Pro: Should you be ready to both spend big and save big with the October Prime Day sales, you can get a huge $500 off the top-tier M3 Max chip right now – it’s down to $3,499 rather than $3,999. In return you get one of the most powerful laptops on the planet, with 48GB of RAM on board and a stunning 16.2-inch screen attached.

There’s a lot to like about Chromebooks, which give you a lightweight computing experience without the high prices.
Acer Chromebook Spin 514: Giving you just about everything you could want from a Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 comes with a 14-inch display, an AMD Ryzen 5 5625C processor, and 8GB of RAM. Oh, and the display folds right over, if you need it to. With the Amazon October Prime Day sale, it’s now $549.99 rather than $699.99.
HP Chromebook Plus x360: Speaking of displays that fold right over, so you can use them propped up or as tablets, there’s also the 14-inch HP Chromebook Plus x360. Now available for $429.98 rather than $559.99 (more than 20% off), you get an Intel Core i3-N305 processor and 8GB of RAM to deal with everything you need to do in ChromeOS.
Asus Chromebook Plus CX34: The Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 brings with it several Google AI goodies, as well as a crisp 14-inch display, an Intel Core i3 chipset, and 8GB of RAM. You can now get this excellent laptop for $409 rather than $439.99—a modest discount, but a discount nonetheless.
Acer Chromebook 516 GE: Chromebooks aren’t really gaming laptops—until you connect them to the cloud, that is. The Acer Chromebook 516 GE has been built with cloud gaming in mind, from the design to the specs: It boasts a 16-inch display, an Intel Core i5-1240P processor, and 16GB of RAM, and right now it’ll set you back $509.99 instead of $599.99.

When you need serious performance out of your laptop, sometimes only a gaming laptop will do, even if compromises have to be made in terms of portability and battery life.
Dell G16 7630: Dell does gaming laptops as well as everything else, and the excellent Dell G16 7630 is now down to $1,299.99 from $1,599.99. It’s absolutely stuffed with power, from the Intel Core i9 CPU to the 16GB of RAM, and the 16-inch display can go as high as 240 Hz with its refresh rate. To top it all off, there’s a premium Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU too.
Asus ROG Strix G16: The Republic of Gamers (ROG) series from Asus usually impresses, and that’s certainly the case with the Asus ROG Strix G16. Not only do you get an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics and a 16-inch display running at up to 165 Hz, it’s all yours for $1,099.99—a hefty drop on the previous price of $1,399.99.
Another good option
Asus TUF Gaming A15: Also from Asus, the TUF Gaming A15 is a great gaming laptop at a great price. In return for the $994.99 sale price—down from $1,399.99—you get a 15.6-inch, 144Hz display, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics, an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, and 16GB of RAM. This will be able to handle the best games out there (and then some).
Alienware M18 R2: The Alienware M18 R2 is currently available for $500 less than normal at $2,299.99. This particular model offers an 18-inch, 165 Hz display, an Intel Core i9 processor, 32 GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 CPU.
